This English programme caters to all your proficiency needs in the English language. You can expect to improve on all the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing, in the shortest possible time with this English course. Your knowledge on grammar and vocabulary will also be polished.

A multimedia English Language learning courseware, Planet English, is used to complement classroom teaching.

There are four levels (Lower Basic, Higher Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) in the IEP, with each level spanning 12 weeks (3 months). Students are required to take a placement test before they enrol in the programme, and will be placed in the appropriate level in the programme based on the results of the test.

10 Most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. When can I join the programme?
You can join the programme at any time. There are four intakes in a year – January, April, July and October (for all levels). You are allowed to enrol in the programme even after the intake date has commenced.

2. Who are the lecturers?
We have a team of dedicated, qualified, experienced and caring staff who always go the extra mile to assist you to achieve the level of English proficiency that you have always desired.

3. Who are my classmates in the programme?
We have students from South Korea, Oman, China, Pakistan and Iran, and from other neighbouring countries in the region as well. By being in the programme, you are actually able to broaden your horizons and life experiences.

4. How much do I have to spend for the tuition fees and other living costs?
We firmly believe that education is not a trade commodity. We, therefore, have made our tuition fee very reasonable and affordable (Please refer to the fee schedules). The living cost in Malaysia is usually not a concern. Most students find it affordable to live comfortably here. 5. How long will I need to be in the programme?
It all depends on your English proficiency level. There are currently four levels in the programme, namely Lower Basic, Higher Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. Each level is of 12 weeks duration. You will be given a placement test. You will be then placed in the level based on your score in the test. For instance, if you are placed at the Intermediate level, you will need only 6 months to complete the IEP.

6. What are the language learning facilities/resources available?
Besides the usual language learning facilities/resources found in most institutions, we also have two state-of-the-art digital language laboratories, and a good range of language learning software to support and enhance your learning.

7. What is so special about IEP at KBU?
We are trying our very best to offer you an all-round education where we will mould you to become a ‘better-equipped’ person before you move on further in your academic pursuit. For instance, we organise various activities during each intake that will provide you opportunities to socialize and improve on your communicative English skills.

8. How can I be sure of the quality of the IEP?
The quality of the programme is closely monitored by the Quality Assurance Department (QAD). The programme is also recognised as meeting the language requirement for entry to our partner universities in the UK. On top of that, you can also check on the testimonies by past students, kept in the Language Centre.

9. What will I get after completing the programme?
Upon completion of each level, you will be awarded the “Certificate of Proficiency” for the respective level.

Admission Procedures

1. All applications will go through the normal processing, handled by the respective departments in KBU(for more information, please contact the Marketing Department). Once the processing is completed, your application would be forwarded to the Language Centre.

2. Upon receiving your application, the Language Centre would require you to sit for a placement test before you are allowed to join the programme. The details of the test are as follows:

Test Structure : Listening, Reading Comprehension, Structure & Written Expression, Short Essay

3. After the placement test is marked, you will be required to attend a briefing session, conducted by the Language Centre.

You will be briefed on the following:

  • The level you will be emplaced based on your placement test result
  • The timetable for the intake
  • The academic staff of the Language Centre
  • The course contents and assessment
  • The facilities and resources available at the Language Centre
  • The rules and regulations of the language lab
  • The rules and regulations during examinations

4. After the briefing session, you will be escorted to your class (based on your achievement in the placement test), OR you can choose to start at a later preferred date (NB The chosen date must not be later than one week after the briefing session).
