BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design (3+0) KP/JPS(A5000)4/13

Introduction

This is a modular programme and assessment is based on coursework involving a wide range of individual and group projects, presentation, 2D and 3D image generation and modeling, essays, seminars, and a written dissertation. Various activities that include field trips and site visits, as well as a series of guest lectures by prominent members of design profession, are also organized.

  • Duration: 3 years at KBU International College
  • Entry requirements: Foundation in Arts & Design or UEC (art & design stream) or equivalent qualifications OR STPM/ A-Levels/ Diploma in relevant studies with appropriate art portfolio will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Intake: January and August ( Year 1), October (Year 2 and Year 3)

Design Principles

An Introduction to design principles:

  • Introduction to basic structure and structural principles
  • Design issues in relation to structure and function
  • Ergonomics and anthropometrics
  • Working and manipulating with scale

Design Communication

  • Introduction to basic drafting
  • 2D and 3D drawing technologies
  • Orthographic drawing
  • Production drawing and model making
  • Basic structures and materials
  • Presentation drawing
  • Rendering techniques
  • Digital Imaging Skills

Architecture in Context 1

  • Historical development in architecture and its social cultural contexts
  • The political, economic, social and techno logical influences on contemporary architecture in global contexts
  • An Introduction to basic research strategies and methods
  • Developing the critical analytical skills through specific investigation in relation to interior architecture

YEAR 2

Integrated design principles
Organisation and space configuration

  • Develop planning strategies for a given building programme within a specific architecture envelope
  • Develop design proposals concerning ergonomic needs, finishes and materials within a focused small scale design project

Detailed Specification

  • Develop and design plan into a detailed proposal that addresses the design, detailing, finishes and specification of architectural and interior elements at appropriate level.
  • Conceptualising and relating ideas and expression of design solution
  • Presentation and debate design proposals through appropriate visual, verbal, written and electronic techniques.

Professional and Technical Studies
Professional Presentation

  • Develop a professional CV and portfolio of work aligned to skills and techniques that the industry requires

Terminology of Building Construction

  • Understanding of the principles and terminology of building construction and the consequences of the application of materials

Architecture in Context 2

  • Introduction to contemporary interior, architecture and urban design in local and global context
  • Cultural diversity and influences in built environment
  • Exploration of critical thinking and construction debates.

YEAR 3

Advanced Design Studies

  • Encourage students to undertake a synthesized research, critical debate and understanding of design philosophy.
  • Students have the opportunity to explore and develop design strategies to respond creatively through design proposals and site contexts
  • Respond holistically to the architectural and environmental context design, building briefs, scheme design, and conceptual framework, cultural, social, political and economic considerations and to reflect in detailed design.

  • Pengajian Malaysia

*All local students are required to take 3 MQA Compulsory Subjects that include Bahasa Kebangsaan A, Malaysian Studies, and Islamic Studies (for Muslims) or Moral education (for non-Muslims). Malaysian students are required by MQA to pass all these 3 subjects to qualify for their awards. MQA Compulsory Subjects are optional for all International Students
