School of Engineering & Computing
Introduction
Engineering is a creative and innovative discipline that combines general and specialized knowledge and understanding to optimize the application of existing and emerging technology and science into devices, products, systems and services for the benefit of humanity. All engineers should have solid foundation in mathematics, physics and engineering sciences to enable them to apply their skills professionally and appropriately to the analysis and solution of engineering issues. An engineer also needs to be an effective communicator and team player to interact with other engineers and clients to resolve various engineering issues. Thus, engineering degree programmes are designed to produce graduates with the necessary skills set and attributes.
The School of Engineering & Computing offers ‘3+0′ Honours degree programmes in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) and Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK. The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC) has awarded the prestigious Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status to these programmes as they are Information & Communication Technology (ICT) related and are recognised by MDC to be relevant to the needs of companies within the MSC as well as to a Knowledge-Driven Economy.
Links with industry have ensured that these programmes remain relevant and up-to-date.
The School has also established exclusive collaboration with IBM Malaysia to ensure the sustainability of human capital development in mainframe computing technology.
School of Design
Introduction
The School of Design was established in 1993 and has an exclusive agreement with Nottingham Trent University (NTU), UK, to conduct programmes in the field of art & design in Malaysia. In fact, KBU is the first and only centre in South East Asia to conduct the University’s Honours degree programmes in Graphic Design and Interior Architecture & Design.
NTU’s School of Art & Design has a long history of art & design education that dates back to 1843. Today, it is one of the major providers of art & design education at tertiary level in the United Kingdom (UK).
The 3+0 degree programmes in art & design at KBU are full franchise of the university’s programmes. Thus, the syllabi of the university are adopted fully. Furthermore, under this franchise, students who enroll in the degree programmes at KBU are, in effect, associate students of NTU, and may transfer to NTU to complete their undergraduate studies, subject to their passing all the requisite examinations at KBU, before the transfer.
Besides the two fully franchised Honours Degree design programmes, the Foundation in Art & Design programme is also validated by NTU. KBU also conducts its own art & design programmes: Diploma in Interactive Design and Diploma in Interior Design.
Facilities include: ample design studio space, up-to-date computer labs, print studio, 3D workshop and photography lab, and a range of equipment to facilitate students in their projects. The College has everything an art & design student needs to take his or her first steps in becoming a recognised professional designer.
